Frequently Asked Questions

We really don't want to postpone lunch, so we offer a conservative estimate (summer 2026) on this website.

Before that date, the following has to happen (more details on our roadmap)

  1. Securing funds for use for Points 2 and 3. More preorders give us more leverage on banks and investors to secure funding for the sizeable expenses that come with putting a product to market. Time is needed for these preorders to be made.
  2. State-of-the-art engineering by Belgian engineering companies. To garantee a top-quality final product, both our electronic and mechanical design will be reviewed and vetted by experts with significant real-world experience. These experts and companies have a busy agenda and cannot work immediately on the KoumKoum as soon as some preorders are made.
  3. Certifications: CE (for sale in Europe) and USB-C charging. Meeting these certifications requires careful engineering (Point 2), and are granted by dedicated testing labs. These labs also have a busy agenda, thus we cannot finish the KoumKoum is March and have it certified and ready to ship the following day.

The KoumKoum is a team effort by several European companies, all orchestrated by Denis Steckelmacher and his Belgian company SP-Locomotion SRL.

This approach, of a single person giving the impulse but delegating to experts when possible, is quite unique to the KoumKoum and different from other startups or KickStarter projects.

It aims at bringing to market a top-quality KoumKoum, a personal mobility device of a new kind, but that will have enjoyed engineering and manufacturing from experts in their domain, with much experience. As such, we aim at giving to the KoumKoum a distinctive "polished" feel, as if it was produced by a company with 50+ years of experience.

No.

We are not using preorders to fund our development. The development of the KoumKoum is entirely funded through other means. The funds we get through preorders are simply stored.

This means that in case our project fails, we can cancel and refund all the preorders.

We use preorders to prove to banks and investors that there is a demand for the KoumKoum. Each preorder allows us to secure more funding and to scale better.

5km is the range achieved on up-and-down streets using the prototype batteries. We know that the final batteries will be at least 30% bigger.

Even bigger batteries would increase weight at no further benefit. 5km is a very large distance in cities, and allows for instance to go from any point to a train station.

To give a sense of scale, here is a 4.7km trip in Brussels, that goes directly from the periphery to the main train station (maps data: Google):
